Additive Manufacturing is an emerging technology in the Industry 4.0 context and many sectors are implementing it as a production technique for functional parts. In the Fluid Power sector a case of  implementation will be presented by Alberto Tacconelli, Aidro Hydraulics Managing Director. He will explain the potential benefits of metal additive manufacturing (also called 3D printing) that make it worthy of attention and evaluation. The speaker will also present real 3D printed hydraulic solutions and will explain to the public why and when this technology is profitable for hydraulic applications.

Hydraulic Manifold

Aidro has designed an innovative hydraulic manifold with additive manufacturing to reduce weight and space. Aidro has 3D metal printed this manifold in Aluminum with its 3D printer machines based on "power bed sintering process" (DMLS).

With additive manufacturing, the hydraulic manifold has reached an impressive lightweight: 75% weight reduction.

The fluid power solutions can benefit from the additive manufacturing in many aspects: improvement in flow performance thanks to the creation of curved channels. Moreover the auxiliary plugs and caps are no longer necessary and the potential leakage is eliminated.


Hydraulic Manifold

The traditional hydraulic manifold for mobile application has been redesigned to be produced with a metal 3D printer machine. This manifold has exactly the same function as its predecessor : it controls a double acting cylinder with two solenoids valves and two pilot operated check valves. The complete new solution achieved a 75% weight reduction and half size dimensions compared to the traditional manifold. This is made wth Additive Manufacturing

Heat exchanger

Aidro has redesigned a traditional heat exchanger with additive manufacturing. The heat exchanger has been 3D printed in Aluminum (AlSi10Mg). Its size is 1/5 compared to the original product and the weight reduction is 85%.

Moreover the 3D printed heat exchanger combines multiple parts into one.
